Assalam o Alaikum War Rahmatullah,
Knowledge is the food for the soul. Just as the body cannot develop without food, similarly- the soul cannot excel without knowledge. After the creation of man- the first thing which God laid the foundation was knowledge.
The difference between man and other creatures is knowledge. Other creatures cannot excel, while man by using different means can always increase his knowledge. Whilst relating to Adam (ra)- it is stated in Verse 32 of Surah Al-Baqarah : وَعَلَّمَ َٰادَمَ الْاَسْمَآءَ كُلَّهَا. From the interpretation of this verse, we know that those who are engaged in expanding their knowledge remain in the place of humanity.
